(Port) Wine of the month August 2024: Taylors Sentinels Vintage Port 2022

It took me a while to understand where the Sentinels fit into the world of Taylors Vintage Ports. It is the equivalent of the Fonseca Guimaraens, in other words a ‘second label’. This means there are four (or five if you count the single quintas as two) Vintage Ports from Taylor:

1st Limited Edition: Taylors Vargellas Vinha Velha
2. classic: Taylors Vintage Port
3. single quinta Vintage Ports Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta de Terra Feita
4. second label: Taylors Sentinels Vintage Port

Sentinels Vintage Port 2022: Violet reflections in the opaque, almost black colour. Taut cherry fruit on the nose, chocolate and violets. Recognisable tannin structure on the palate, very well-supporting acidity and lots of fruit: cherry, blackberry, cassis and violets, followed by coffee and chocolate. Medium-long finish. 17+/20
